About: |
The city’s fascination with beer and pub culture can be traced right back to the settlement of Melbourne. One of the founding fathers was a publican, our first mayor a brewer and the first council meeting happened in a pub. This fun and informal tour traces the history of beer consumption in the Victorian capital. We examine the early rogue settlers, the sly grog trade of gold rush era as well as the temperance movement and conservative war time drinking habits. The tour also explores Melbourne more recent liberal liquor licensing laws, the birth of the city’s laneway bars as well as the explosion of small batch, craft or microbreweries. We stop at 4 venues to assist in our education. At each, we will try a delicious beer with a focus on Melbourne and Victorian microbreweries. The tour concludes with a burger supper. |

After years of aimlessly wandering the globe, Dave Carswell was fed up with telling the world how great Melbourne is... He wanted to show them. Armed with a wealth of knowledge and local perspective, Dave wanted to create a relaxed and friendly experience that made you feel like you were being shown around by a friend.
