Melbourne Transportation

Shore Excursion Information

Stopping in Melbourne for the day and interested in joining us on a tour?

Well you’ll be pleased to know that Station Pier, Melbourne’s cruise vessel port is a mere 4 kilometres from the city centre and our tour departure point.

There are two convenient ways to travel to and from the port and the city; Taxi or public transport.

Travelling to the city by Taxi

Taxis will be waiting at Station Pier, the journey into town takes approximately 20 minutes and will cost around $25AUD.

Travelling to the city by tram or bus

The #109 tram stops at Port Melbourne very close to Station Pier and will bring you into the heart of the city. This is usually a great way to experience local transport with a nice ride into central Melbourne.

The tram will take approximately 20 minutes to reach the city centre. If you disembark at stop #6 (Town Hall) you will be on the corner of Swanston and Collins Street, a short walk from our tour departure point at Federation Square.

Occasionally if the port is busy the City of Melbourne will provide additional bus services to ensure passengers can get into the city quickly.

Public Transport Ticketing

Melbourne has a smart card public transport ticketing system called Myki. You may be able to purchase a Myki as you arrive, if not you can purchase your Myki at the stores near the tram terminus at Port Melbourne.

Your myki must be purchased prior to boarding the tram. The ticket costs $6AUD and you will need to add enough credit for the day’s travel ($8 per day for weekdays and $6 per day for weekends)

You must “touch on” your Myki each time you board a tram, but you can use it on unlimited rides for the entire day.
Unfortunately the ticket is non-refundable, so keep it as a souvenir or stash it away for your next visit.

Returning to Station Pier

Our walking tour returns to Federation Square at approximately 4pm. We do cross the path of the #109 tram on Collins Street towards the end of the tour so getting back to the port in time for departure shouldn’t be a problem.

Please keep us informed of your ship curfew so that we can ensure you return in time.

Taxis are usually plentiful in Central Melbourne. There are cab ranks at several points near the tour’s end point.

We look forward to seeing you in Meloourne.
